I also take 1 1/2 glyclazide a day, plus various blood pressure tablets, and one blood thinner......at the moment am taking two Metformin, one in the morning and one at night......my sugar levels are pretty much the same as when I was taking the four Metformin......

Sometimes hovers between 3.0 and 4.0......I always know because I feel awful........been taking just one Metformin a day, for 5 days now, and feel great.......

Thanks for the replies.....when I say "groggy" I mean that awful feeling that you get when the sugars go too low, which mine seem to do frequently.......I shall of course discuss things with my doctor / diabetic nurse, if I ever get to see them......

Been feeling pretty groggy lately, and someone suggested stopping taking Metformin for a while, I take four 500mg daily..... so couple of days ago I stopped it.......now feel great, and my sugars have not gone up........had a blood test yesterday and am awaiting results.....IF I have to go see...

Thanks for that......I get up around 4 a:m every morning, so am now doing first test at about 5: am.......this morning mmol/L was 4.5....which is the lowest, I think, that it has ever been, and which I am very pleased with......one thing, how low is too low ?.........Del.

Forgot to mention, my mmol/l is ''hovering'' between 5.0 and 8.0......still maybe a bit high, but considering it was 26.6 when I started testing, then maybe not so bad ?........Del.

O.k.....Have been to see diabetic nurse today.........Hba1c is down from 109 to 73........which she says is still way too high.......have now been given a test meter and 100 strips on prescription, after saying that I wasn't testing so much because it was getting expensive, because I had to buy...

O.k...... Either small amount of porridge or one round of granary bread toast for breakfast......lunch is either sardines, or chicken with a couple of sweet potatoes, or bacon and eggs......don't have evening meal, and don't have snacks throughout the day......sometimes will have a granary...

O.k Thanks........I am testing twice a day.......mornings it is between 6 .0 and 8.0......evenings between the lower 7's and upper 10's......mainly around 8.5.......Del.

Just got back from seeing diabetic nurse.......blood test result was ''horrendous''.......now on 2x 80mg Gliclazide a day, as well as the 1500 mg Metformin......self tested this morning......6 .6.....thought I was doing O.K......now not so sure........Del.

I am now on 3x500 mg a day......been on that dosage four days now, a bit soon to tell, but as of yet no side effects.

Ahh....The original reason for this thread........I am avoiding them at the moment.

Just tested at 4:15pm.......6.8......that's the lowest it has been since I started testing.......now, is it because of my diet, or the higher dose of Metformin ?.....bearing in mind that this is only day 2 of being on 1500 mg.....one 500mg in the morning and 2 in the evening......whatever the...

Surely if it is still to high, and I am now eating sensibly, then this is the way forward ?

Sorry.....When diabetic nurse saw how high it was, she upped the dose......I didn't ask for it......when I tested this morning before going to surgery it was 10.0.

I was told that type 2's don't need to test, as the surgery was ''controlling'' my levels.......but I only go once a year...... I bought my own meter, and highest reading was 26.6, now hovering around the 10.0 mark, but without testing how are you supposed to know where you are ?......I have now...

From what I was told, type 1's get a free meter.......type 2's do not.......some type 2's get free strips, but the one's they have at my surgery don't fit my meter......I was told I don't need to test every day.....but will do anyway.
