Hi jubbtravel What time do you take your pred in the morning and what time do you generally notice spikes in glucose? I'm not experiencing much of a pattern. Thanks.

    Steroid medication increases glucose??

Hi CarbsRok. I wasn't suggesting taking 60u, was just trying to work out what I would take as to the generalised ratio you gave of 2 to 1. Today I've been chasing with bolus but will increase my basal tonight and keep a record of how I respond. Do you know how long it takes for the effects on...

    Steroid medication increases glucose??

Hi CarbsRok. Thanks for your reply. I understand the ratio was generalised but would that mean taking 60u of insulin with the medication, or waiting a few hours and taking it then. Also, I noticed being high when waking, not before bed. In that case I would look at changing my basal first. Do...

    Steroid medication increases glucose??

Do you mean if I use different insulins it might help keep the ranges down? Also, my doctor told me about plenty of side effects. Have you experienced anything since being on the medication?

    Insulin sensitivity increase?

Hi. It isn't a good idea to make changes to both at the same time as whatever your results you won't know which insulin is responsible. Testing your basal first is a good idea. It is recommended to adjust it in 10% stages and wait a few days, not altering your bolus dose. So if you're taking 24...

    Steroid medication increases glucose??

Hi all. I hope you can give me some advice. I am 27, T1, diagnosed almost 2 years ago and have very good control. Last a1c was 5.1%. I use Apidra and Lantus and control my diet vey well. I have recently been diagnosed with mild arthritis and been given prednisolone, a steroid medication. I am...

Thyroid - Bone, Joint & Muscle pain?

Thanks for your help. When I see the doctor on Tuesday I'll ask for another test including the FT3. I know a side effect of the levothyroxine is muscle and joint pains but I also read that symptoms of being undermedicated are the same! So the FT3 should help. Thanks again!

Thyroid - Bone, Joint & Muscle pain?

I've never heard about NDT. It's definitely something I'll look into. My doctor mentioned a possibility of changing me to T3. He said it will need to be taken a few times a day. Other than that I don't know anything about it. Do you?

Thyroid - Bone, Joint & Muscle pain?

Thanks for your reply. The TSH was 5.7 at the end of September when on 75mcg. It was increased to 100mcg and my next appointment to review it is the end of May. The pains only started when it was increased to 100mcg. They have grown more severe with each day. I'm not sure if it a reaction to the...

Thyroid - Bone, Joint & Muscle pain?

Hi. Apologies if this has been posted elsewhere but couldn't find anything. I've been T1 for nearly 2 years and was diagnosed with an under active thyroid at the same time. I've been on Levothyroxine for the entire time, starting with 25mcg and now on 100mcg as the last result was 5.7 (October...

    Carb Ratios

Hi Steve, Thanks for your post - it's, 'good' to know others experience the same problem. I too have attempted what Brett suggested and found my basal dose correct, yet I continue to experience the fluctuations in bolus ratios. A test I try is to replicate the daily routine over a few days, so...

    Carb Ratios

Thanks for your post Riri. At least I know now that it is not an isolated thing. I'll just have to keep on top of it.

Thanks for your help - I really appreciate it. I'll do exactly as you've recommended and hopefully help these fluctuations to end.

    Carb Ratios

I've not heard about the test you are suggesting. Would you mind explaining in more detail so I know exactly what to do? (I'll do anything.) My exercise is the same every day and I keep the fat content in food to a minimum so that shouldn't be the reason, but sizes of meal and all the other...

    Carb Ratios

Thanks for your replies. I am currently on 11u Lantus once a day. I haven't changed this dosage for some time as found it works very well. On a carb-free day, and allowing it to settle the previous night before sleep, (and refraining from exercise) I find it stays level between 5-6 mmol/L until...

    Carb Ratios

Hi all, I am new to this forum so sorry if this has been posted elsewhere. I was diagnosed with T1 in September, 2012. I was given very little advice at the time of my diagnosis and have learnt to deal with it independently. I did attend the dafne course shortly after my diagnosis and have used...
