Having trouble keeping to diabetic lifestyle

Hi Sue, I was diagnosed with an aggressive BC back in August 2013 and was told in January this year after ending up in hospital with Neutropenia, Tachycardia, sky high blood pressure, septicaemia and a temperature of 41 following my final chemotherapy, that my blood sugar was 22 and I was...

Carraway, the book arrived from amazon yesterday , it's been really useful so far, but I've been saddened to see how many things I need to give up. The Christmas pudding was a real downer! But lots of eye openers there too. I recommend it :) Sent from the Diabetes Forum App

Thanks for that Daisy, lots of really useful stuff in there! Bluetit, I suspect I know why you have that name! :) have they said that your steroids were probably responsible for your diabetes as well? I actually have that in black and white after my last admission with neutropenic sepsis. I...

    Need some advice please ?

I wasn't aware there were different tests. They did a 3 month history test hb1 thingy which came back as 76 , so it's been high as long as I've been having chemotherapy. All the drugs stopped on 6th jan, except for the IV antibiotics they gave me during my recent hospital admission. Sent...

When/how did you tell your family?

It seems my type 2 was provoked by the dexamethasone prescribed for me during my breast cancer treatment. Apparently it's a known side effect but I'm gutted I was not told. I tell everyone, and so far haven't been blamed for causing it, but I too am fed up with the " a little bit won't hurt...

    Need some advice please ?

I'm newly diagnosed, following an emergency unrelated hospital admission. BG on admission was 22. I've invested in a meter and am taking readings every two hours but I don't seem to be able to get my BG down into normal levels unless I give up eating altogether. This morning for breakfast I had...

Don't involve yourself in the blame game.

I'm newly diagnosed too, and have so far lost 3 kg in 2 weeks effortlessly with low carb dieting . I find it a comfort knowing where the boundaries are :) Sent from the Diabetes Forum App

Thanks guys :) I've made some massive dietary changes in the last two weeks since leaving hospital, my HB3 thingy test was 76 so I've had this at least for the length of my chemotherapy. I'm frankly enjoying my new diet though and have lost 3 kilos in 2 weeks, 75 to 72, without really trying...

Really struggling at the moment, I haven't helped myself by refusing to see the diabetes nurse because I was insisting I wasn't diabetic though my bs was 22 on admission to hospital. I've got myself a meter and am trying to do a food diary but I have no idea what I'm doing and my bs are...

Hi, I'm newly diagnosed, apparently type 2 caused by steroid use during chemotherapy. I've been told this might regulate itself in time. Anyone else heard of this? Any input positive or negative would be appreciated Sent from the Diabetes Forum App
