insulin range

Dear diabetics, A nurse told me that starting insulin at a certain dose (e.g. 100) would reach the optimum after a year. I have not experienced this; to the contrary, I seem to need more and more after 6 months. I wonder what your experience is. Thanks for any ideas; Erin
