Well, I'm following the 14-point tips on lowering Hb1Ac (as spotted on a regular forum email) so let's see how I get on in next months test.
Anyhow one point stuck out - restaurant meals. For the first time since diagnosis we went to a restaurant for a family birthday. Tried to find a carvery (which seemed ideal) but couldn't, so ended up with a 'normal' restaurant. They were accommodating actually when I asked for very few carbs - roast pork, veggies without the roast spuds followed by strawberries and cream without the sugary meringue.
It wasn't a cheap experience (a large glass of red was £8). The one over-riding thing that helped keep my intake to sensible proportions was that the food was ****! Actually, the meat was at least 25% fat, I didn't mind but a 'normal' person would have sent a lot back, but it was pallid and tasteless. I did request an extra slice of pork to make up for that lack of spuds. Well, if they gave me an extra one a normal portion would have been minimal indeed. The crackling wasn't and the veg soggy.
We have changed our home diet substantially over the past month + and we now eat some really interesting and tasty food. Thankfully (!?) my wife is verging on pre-diabetic so has a vested interest in our grub and has embraced the LCHF thing like a whirling dervish. So content are we usually post dinner that we often nod off before the watershed.
The restaurant meal was poor but the experience did highlight how well off we are on our new regime - thanks in no small manner to you lot!

I have been to many restaurant pre diagnosed and found the food to be either poor on non consistent. Yesterday, I filled up with fuel and noticed the hygiene rating on the petrol stn was 1 !. Take out and indulgence food I think is suffering from a case of trying to cut costs in highly competitive market. In Swansea, every other shop is either a hairdresser or restaurant. I totally take on board your train of thought that maybe our regime is a good one as we sift out the wheat from the chaff and try to cherry pick the things that are good for us.
