15 weeks along, sudden good control..

I've struggled with high readings so far, this is my 3rd baby and it has been difficult for me to stay away from 9's and 10's alot of the time :(
I'm just over 15 weeks and in the past few days i've had to half my insulin amounts (i'm type 1)
I thought insulin resistance was supposed to make this go the other way.

With me only being this far along i've not yet felt movements so don't have that to go by. I'm speaking to my DSN tomorrow but do you think this would warrant an extra scan? xx

Hi,
I didn't want to read and run. I can't offer much in the way of reassurance but hope you managed to speak with your DSN today.
In my first pregnancy, I actually used less insulin than usual until I was 34 weeks!

Thanks for replying Lisa, its so confusing, i tried again to get hold of my dsn today but no luck, will phone again tomorrow but i've just had a terrible hypo (at this time of night!) had 3units with 50g of carbs(ish) and 45minutes after i dropped to 2.8. I think i need to go low carb so hopefully will need minimal if any insulin with meals, though i know low carb isn't recommended in pregnancy, i think it would be better than constantly varying readings between 1.6 and 14mmol!
Sorry for rambling, still abit shakey from the hypo and don't really want to sleep yet as i've had to correct a high x

Hope you're feeling better today and have managed to avoid more lows today. Doesn't sound like you've over done it with the insulin, perhaps it's worth low carbing for a short time until your levels rise. We're you any more active yesterday evening? x

Thanks :) i've no idea what happened, it just seems lately i hardly need any insulin, i managed to speak to my DSN today, but she just said don't worry about it, and to keep doing as i am, but i'm worried something is wrong as i've read all sorts on the internet about needing to reduce insulin in pregnancy :?
I've gone low carb today and only had 1unit with my evening meal and so far so good, i think i definitley need to go low carb but try and keep a balance to i don't get the ketones associated with low carb diets x

I should of also added, i'm still sort of in my honeymoon period, before pregnancy i was only needing 2u of levemir for basal, and i was low carbing, but as soon as i had a positive pregnancy test, my readings went warped! I then gradually increased to 8u of basal, and was on around 4-6u of novorapid. I should of mentioned that before, i'm wondering if that still has anything to do with it x

Yeah the Internet can be very informative but scary at the same time. When are you actually due a scan? Could be related to the honeymoon period - maybe you are kicking out your own insulin at times? :-/
How have your levels been today? X

Thanks :) levels are raised today so i think i need to increase again, i think i am glad though in a way, hopefully that can be a good sign! I've got my scan in just under 4 weeks but i have a midwife appointment in 3 weeks, i can't remember if they check the babys heartbeat so soon or not (i will be 19 weeks then) x
