1st appointment with Diabetes Nurse

Tomorrow morning I have my first appointment with my diabetes nurse. I have tried my best to lose as much weight as possible and low carb since I started trying to turn type 2 around.

I am now 20 pounds lighter since my second blood test (8.7mm/ol) on the 15th of April. I have totally changed my diet and my way of life in general. My average fasting bloods are now 5.1mm/ol and 2 hours after meals an average of 6.2mm/ol.

I am enjoying my food and the range of it. Foods that I would never have thought about eating before.

I really don't know what to expect tomorrow but I was determined to show that I was serious about combating type 2 and kicking it into submission.

It wasn't my healthcare professionals that helped me in my time of need but the information within this site. It should be required reading for those that are diagnosed pre-diabetic and it is with some regret that I never found, or should I say, attempted to find this site when I was originally diagnosed pre-diabetic 2 years ago.

It will be interesting to see the reaction of my diabetes nurse when I tell her my control is clearly down to a low carb diet.

Make sure your DN gets you enrolled on. Desmond course, puts you down for retinal screening and checks your feet ,you can also ask to see a dietician . Good luck

Well I was suitably impressed. Spent a great deal of time discussing the problem and explaining what I should be doing. She was a proponent of taking a low carb direction in combating my diabetes.

Checked my feet, all fine. Spoke about the retinal scan and a blood test for my liver. Unfortunately didn't check the site before I left so didn't think about asking about a Desmond course.

Did ask for a print out of my results that she was more than happy to give me.

HBA1C - 59

Triglyceride - 2.2

Cholestrerol - 7.0

HDL - 1.4

LDL - 4.6

A little way to go to get some of these figures down but I am determined that I will.

Readings not to bad ideals are hbA1c 48 cholesterol 4 hdl above 1 LDL below2 BP 140/80 average but everyone is different if you eat a good GI diet and watch sugars and carbs your readings will come down ,good luck, I found the Desmond really helpful at understanding the food values
