She was lovely. Gave me referral for 12 weeks free slimming world and a script for metformin. Would not give a meter, kept saying 2whats the point" and that the Trust says not to give them. She also said that NICE say not to monitor. She did however relent and give me a meter but said it is not long term. review in 3 months.

So would she ask for the meter back after 3 months? Wierd.

Ask your GP for a prescription for the test strips. Yes every NHS Trust is different. I've been lucky with mine, never had a problem getting them on prescription.

Dont think so, she will not put test strips on repeat so will have to buy my own.

If you haven't been allowed strips on your prescription you may find costs quite high, depending on the meter you have been given. Have you done any research on that yet?

Many of us in simular circumstances use the SD Codefree meter and strips which tend to come in a lot cheaper than most of the alternatives.

There's a link here: http://www.homehealth-uk.com/medical/blood_glucose_monitor_testing.htm

The link also contains a video on how to undertake the tests, if your nurse didn't show you.

Is she on commission?

Is she on commission?

I found mine was the same.

I used it, showed I was committed, been on repeat ever since.

No point handing them out to everyone, then just seeing them appear on ebay every month.

Diabetes UK, the diabetes charity part funded by cereal manufacturers and which shot us in the back yet again recently with the headline that diabetics will bankrupt the NHS.. yes, them.. they are useful for one thing.. to download the advocacy pack on meters and strips to help you challenge decisions like that. You can also call and they'll mail one out.
