going to see the endocrine consultant for my 3 month check up etc tomo. pretty nervous that there gonna find something else wrong after doing all these blood tests! i know their checking for celiacs disease and stuff like that, but i've been feeling fine so hopefully i'm all good.

i'm aiming for hba1c of under 6, fingers crossed.

other than the blood result what else will they do? i guess blood pressure and weight, anything else? + my consultants was really good when i was first diagnosed, he booked me in to see him a week after to go through things with me and answer any new Q's, but do they try and get through us quick as poss in clinic? cos i got a load more Q's written out ready for him!

Hi Howie,
can't think of anything else he would do, though my 10yr old has an appoitment today also, and of course kids are slightly different (they'll check his height as well as his weight, feet, injection areas and fingers) Just make sure you ask your questions, and don't be hurried along. Andrews appointment usually takes 1 1/2 hrs from start to finish, kids definately aren't in a hurry as they get out of school ! He has a good chat to them all, little minx. Good luck, hope everything goes ok, were hoping for a really good improvement on Hbac1, last one was a shocking 10.2, hoping to have got it down considerably.

thanks for the reply, it went great, was probably there about 1 and half like you guys. spent about 30 mins with consultant. got an hba1c of 5.9% and cholesterol of 3.8. can't remember the others but they were all fine. hope all's gone well for you and your 10yr old today too.

Well Howie,
I would have been happy with a 9.5 at least it would have been an improvement on the 10.0 he scored, we both left feeling very deflated and disheartened, we have been carb counting , weighing foods and injecting on time, everything by the book, and getting great bs numbers at home. But Dr thinks puberty is playing highly in his Hbac1.
Many congratulations on your results, and long may they last.

puberty was tough, i'm grateful i missed it with db it must be even tougher. did the doc not give good recommendations? a good friend of mine grew up with T1 and he took the responsibility of medicating himself pretty early on, i think it helped him understand it, (i'll ask him how he dealt with puberty and get back to you). maybe a pumps a good idea through puberty, more customisable and you don't have to have 'em forever.

back to sam, i usually eat what most would consider an average healthy diet. regular day probs be;

break - porridge with chopped banana and peanut butter + 1 mouthful of oj, lol
lunch - 2 brown pittas, filled with salami, salad & homous.
dinner - chilli on one slice of wholemeal bread. (with a loada parmesan)
pudding - total greek yogurt with 1/2 chopped banana, rasberries, blackberries & blueberries (well nice)

normal stuff really, i eat pasta and pizza, just make sure i check my level if there's a lot of carbs. i find the margin of error is greater the more carbs i eat. i don't have any refined sugar, didn't really dig it anyway. i'm no pro but if i'm unsure about a meal i overestimate a little and top up with bit of oj if i need too, (possibly not the best idea) but keeps by bg from spiking if i'm unsure. other than that i play tennis a lot and either go running or give myself corrective doses if i find my levels high (above 8).

i'm still an amateur but if i haven't got a good idea of what my bg probably is then i test it. i consciously estimate before each test to hone my guessing skills.

all best
