2 hours after meal...

Hi all, but I cannot get a definitive answer and thought you all may be the best to say.

Post meal meter readings...should they be 2 hours after you started eating? or 2 hours after you finish?

And what if I am asked to taste something, will that cause an issue if I am not actually eating the meal right away? I.e hubby asks me to try a taste of sauce or a piece of meat etc for flavour? Does that mean if I am eating 30 minutes later it doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things? Because I am thinking my pre-meal readings will be slight more elevated? Maybe I am wrong...just thinking....

I think you're overthinking this. Obviously if you were having a big meal like Christmas, over say 3 hours, you might want to leave it until the end. If you are an insulin user maybe even take multiple injections throughout the meal.

Ok, you may be right. Usually meals don't take long but I have been measuring 2 hours after I stopped, but now I will make sure it is from the start. Thank you. I've only just started metformin, so no insulin yet thank goodness.:)

Hi @Jennji,

Most of us T2s on no medication other than metformin test two hours after having the first bite. However, as long as you're consistent, it doesn't matter too much.

As to having a taste of the food beforehand, I wouldn't think it makes much of difference -- unless excessively carby.

Thanks. I’ll get used to it. Just have to keep getting google to remind me to do it.
 
I think the point to remember is don't stress about it - relax as much as you can, otherwise it's counter productive.

Easy for me to say, usually as tense as a piano string ☹️
