So today I had my 20 week scan and everything was normal. Eg. Measurements, kidneys, heart etc. But she kept saying she can't see her face properly and called a colleague in for a second opinion and then they both said they can clearly see a small space on the left side of her lip and said she looks like she may have cleft lip but pallet looks intact! I feel very happy that she is healthy but at the same time I feel sad knowing she will have to have at least one operation at 6 months old :( I asked if my diabetes was anything to do with it they said no way. They also said she's quite chubby already so worried she will be huge!! :(

Hey lolli ,

I'm so happy for you that everything is looking well for baby , but on the other hand I'm so sorry for what you have fount out .
It's hard enough trying to do what we're doing without added on top . Just remember they have told you it is nothing you have done diabetes wise .
Is hard to stay positive at times like these but I know you can do it .

Take care of yourself , and good luck with everything

I'm sure you'll produce a beautiful baby.

Pregnancy is always such a worrying time. Sorry you have this extra concern.

It's not your diabetes, these things happen in non-diabetics too. Try not to beat yourself up, I know you will though trust me. I had a miscarriage at 14 weeks and a blighted ovum as well I blamed myself and the diabetes but was told that neither of them were due to me or the diabetes. I have two wonderful children a 22 year old daughter and a son of 20. Every mum blames herself for whatever reason there is when it comes to their baby. You wouldn't be a mum if you didn't and you'll never stop worrying about them.
Enjoy your little one when she comes. Take care and all the best to you.

We just had a baby boy 18 days ago, he's IVF as we tried for 10 years with only one miscarriage.

We've been paranoid since day one of fertility treatment, my sister lost a baby in childbirth two years ago as well so that's been on our minds bigtime.

My wife is now 40 so that's a big risk, IVF is a risk, my uncle has a cleft pallet and I've only got very soft tissue in my nose (almost a semi cleft)

So every scan was terrifying.

Our baby also hid his mouth every scan just adding to my fear.

Well all went well and the little angel is perfect :)

Even if he did have a cleft it doesn't make a difference nowadays the surgery is amazing and you can barely tell.

You'll love her like nothing else !!!!

Congrats on a beautiful baby on the way !!!

Here's our little baby boy Hunter :)

He's beautiful congratulations!! Thanks everyone for the kind messages. I know that cosmetic surgery these days is fantastic and we are being seen by the best specialist in the country. Just the thought of our little girl having to have surgery at 3/4 months old is scary :( since finding out I do feel like I love her even more and she will be extra special to us :) im over the initial shock and very thankful she is healthy x

You are going to have a beautiful baby girl and even if they are right about the cleft surgery is so good now Of course you are worried about her having surgery so young you are her mum and mums worry but she will be fine and they know now the younger they do the surgery the better the results will be so be happy and enjoy your lovely baby when she arrives
