Chelsea suffered another defeat this time to Liverpool 1-3

Mourinho has made it clear he will not resign - while Chelsea's board delivered very public backing to their manager in early October.

Since then, however, Chelsea have barely improved and this comprehensive defeat comes on top of the acrimonious loss at West Ham United last weekend and the Capital One Cup exit against Stoke City on penalties in midweek.

And Mourinho, normally so confident and upbeat, carried the air of a beaten man as he stood hands in pockets on the touchline in the closing seconds with defeat assured and Stamford Bridge emptying rapidly.

Mourinho appeared distracted by opposite number Jurgen Klopp's constant, animated dialogue with fourth official Lee Mason, seeming to question what would happen if he acted in a similar fashion.

As ever, all things rest with owner Roman Abramovich at Chelsea, and while Chelsea's supporters rallied to their manager's cause as his name echoed around Stamford Bridge, this was another lame and uninspired performance from a team delivering relegation form rather than looking up the table.

Now we must wait to see if this loss spells the end of Mourinho's second coming at Chelsea.

Jose Mourinho has two games to save his Chelsea job, club sources have told ESPN FC, with Carlo Ancelotti interested in taking over even on a temporary basis.

Chelsea's dismal form has seen them suffer six defeats in 11 league games this season.

Although club owner Roman Abramovich has wanted to give Mourinho time, sources said his vote of confidence after the home defeat to Southampton in early October would only extend until the November international break.

If Chelsea struggle against Dynamo Kiev in the Champions League at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday and face a group stage exit, the trip to Stoke next Saturday could be decisive for Mourinho.


Abramovich wants to look at the two games, together with Saturday's 3-1 home defeat to Liverpool, before coming to any decision.

With no immediate sign of the situation being turned around, sources said the majority of the players were now questioning Mourinho.

The view within the club is that if Mourinho is sacked, the international break would give a replacement time and would be the optimum moment for a change.

Although Chelsea have not directly approached Ancelotti, contact has been made with intermediaries.

The Italian has told his representatives he is interested, even if that only means taking the job until the end of the season.

Ancelotti -- who was at Chelsea between 2009 and 2011, winning the Double -- has privately described the club as the most difficult he has managed but would be willing to come back.

Meanwhile, Mourinho admitted the importance of the Champions League clash with Kiev as he previewed the game on Chelsea TV.

"It's a big game. It's a game that we cannot lose," he said. "We still can finish first, second or third, and obviously we want to finish in the top two."

The Chelsea boss said he could not fault the efforts of his players in the defeat by Liverpool.

"There are things that are out of our hands. The players tried. You could feel, and not just because we scored in the first couple of minutes, the attitude, desire," he said. "It was 50-50 despite the fact we were winning 1-0.

"There were two minutes of added time [in the first half] and we conceded the goal after two minutes and 35 seconds.

"What happened in the second half was a consequence of crucial moments, moments that the stadium saw, and more than just see it, the players felt it.

"From then, what happened was just a consequence."

Mourinho said he was delighted that the Chelsea fans had sung his name in a show of support.

"I take comfort, but what feeds me is not just the support of the fans but also the recognition of our work -- and that is by getting results," he added.

"I have some players really sad in the dressing room, and I'm full of respect for them."

Remi Garde: Aston Villa confirm ex-Lyon boss as manager
Aston Villa have appointed Remi Garde as their new manager on a three-and-a-half-year deal.

The Frenchman, 49, succeeds Tim Sherwood and will watch Villa's match at Tottenham from the stands on Monday.

Garde, who left Lyon after three seasons in 2014, described joining the Premier League's bottom club as an "unbelievable honour".

"Obviously we have a difficult task in front of us but I'm looking forward to the challenge," he added.

Leeds United: Supporters' group confident of takeover deal
Leeds Fans United chief executive Dylan Thwaites believes it is the only group to which Massimo Cellino is willing to sell his majority stake.

The Italian announced on Friday that he was willing to agree a takeover with supporters and forgo any profit.

Thwaites said: "Massimo was absolutely clear that he was only selling to fans.

"It's Leeds United - there are always rumours. But I think it would be crazy for anyone to seek to steal this deal from the Leeds fans."

He continued: "The level of hostility generated would be a death blow to any sensible bid plan."

Cellino, who is still going ahead with his appeal against a Football League ban, told BBC Radio Leeds he was "sad and embarrassed" about how his ownership of the Championship club had turned out.

Leeds are currently 19th in the Championship after only two wins from their opening 14 games, with Steve Evans recently becoming the fifth head coach appointed since Cellino took over the club in April 2014.

Thwaites is confident LFU, which was launched in April with the aim of buying a minority stake in the club, will get exclusivity on the deal in the near future.

"He was adamant that he would only sell to Leeds fans," he said.

"This clearly gives us an exclusive position. Of course, as professionals we need this signing and we expect to have that shortly."
