Hi all

My husband was diagnosed with Type 2 back in November. He is on Metformin, the last blood test showed the HBA1C went from 12 to 8.

He is on Metformin 2000mg a day and has now been prescribed Jardiance but hasn't taken his first tablet yet as only just collected today.

His fasting reading was 8.5 today (tested at 1pm)

He had an omlette and 2 hours later his reading was 3.9

Is this too low? Online it says anything below 3.9 requires action and you need to have a sugary drink but I mean will that spike his levels way too high then?

Tia

Just to add his fasting readings have been lower before (once it was 4.6, after that it's been around 6) so 8 has been the highest since the diagnoses.

Provided your husband felt OK, bearing in mind his medication regime and what he'd eaten, I wouldn't be concerned.

Thank you very much for the quick reply. He is feeling absolutely fine in himself. Thanks for the reassurance, we will keep an eye incase he feels unwell

Always bear in mind, it’s worth double checking an unexpected result. I often drop below four with no ill effects.

Thanks @Rachox We will definitely be keeping an eye on things and monitor. So far no ill effects

If you're taking insulin or other medication that can cause hypo's (jardiance is one), then you need to have some fast acting carbs, such as jelly babies if you're blood sugar is below 4, so once your husband starts the Jardiance, that's the correct advice.
