Hi all. Since late November I've been on insulin. I started taking 6 units and now I'm on 40 units every morning once a day. But it's taken me to get from 13 blood sugar level to average of now 7.7. Should it take this long? I feel totally fed up and failing. I started this so I can conceive a child.....but by now I thought I'd have it all in hand. Seems to take forever and diabetic nurse won't change my insulin. I'm on insuman Basel.

Hi. Are you overweight? I suspect you are based on the number of injected units? If you are overweight and insulin resistant then you are adding to insulin already in the body and can get into a vicious circle. If you do have excess weight you must reduce your carbs by enough to reduce weight and insulin needs. This should help break the circle. Watch out for hypos along the way. Apologies if I'm wrong about the weight. Normally insulin should bring blood sugar down to where you want it within days not months with the right number of units.

Hi I'm type 2 diabetic. My bmi is 31 which indicates I am indeed overweight. How can someone be insulin resistant? I've cut my carbs down massively and have found potatoes pasta and bread really raise my sugar levels hugely. I'm waiting to see a dietitian in March to help me control it better. But diabetic nurse just says your doing it all correctly. But this seems like forever.

I was told not to get in to the time it takes to sort out just that in the end it will be sorted. good luck to you and keep up the good work.
