Hi everyone so I've had my first diabetic review today my hb1 bloods were 4.3 so the nurse was really pleased and said no need for medication and will see me in a year. So a quick review!! Sorry I still don't really understand these blood results?? And how do they differ for the fasting blood tests??

Thanks I'm easily confused lol

I was sure she said 4.3 but could be wrong, she showed me the chart and said they tried to keep diabetics to 53?? Or 5.3?? Sorry it's all so confusing, I may have picked her up wrong. Will ask when I return in a year!! Lol

No Diane, don't wait a year!!!! Not wise. Ring up or call in and ask for a print out of the blood results. You need to know where you are with this, it is important. You are entitled to print outs. There is a huge difference between 4.3% and 43mmol/mol.

Yes, they mean below 54 mmol/mol. That's higher than my HbA1c when I was diagnosed.

Yes as bluetit says, don't wait! Ring and ask for clarification- you need to know now not in a year. Come back and update us.

Yes, mine was 53. . My nurse said no point in giving me a target as I was already on the recommended one! That's possibly why she advised me to eat jacket potatoes with baked beans. :hilarious:

As everyone is saying, ask for a copy of the tests. You don't need to make another appointment with your DN. Just ring the surgery and let them know you want a copy of the results. You can just pop in to the reception to collect them. I am doing this myself (after following advice met out by the guys here to others). It is a great way to check other abnormalities or changes in your bloods when you can check it against previous results.

I collected my recent test results yesterday. My HbA1c had improved but my bloods show a possible fatty liver and anemia. I can now concentrate on getting these normalised before my next appointment - next week.
