Hi there,
I just wanted to tell everyone how much I have to give thanks for, for the fast diet above.
I have lost 6kilos in three months, its so easy, every diabetic should try it. You don't faint, you wont die if you don't eat.
The two fast days have 500 calories for females and 600 for males and I find that more than enough. Sure I get a bit hungry around 3pm, but I just have more and more water and soon its 6pm and I can have my dinner. Please do try it, its worked wonders for me. Blood sugars are down, I feel really good.

Yes. I agree it has made a large difference to my overall energy levels, quality of sleep and fasting blood levels.

It's a great diet I agree but just wanted to add a caveat - my hubby did it for a few weeks and it triggered really bad migraines that he used to suffer with when younger but hadn't had for a few years. The first couple of weeks were fine but after that he was losing 2 days of his life every week with migraines after the fasting days - I did some research on line and found it was quite a common problem.

Not poo pooing the diet - like I said I think it's a good healthy way to eat just wanted to give people my hubby's experience

I haven't noticed any difference in sleep because I have quite bad neoropathy in my hands. I was hoping the reduced weight, reduced sugar would be good for them, but so far my hands cause me concern. I'm currently taking B12 and leopic acid tablets to try and reduce the throbbing at night. Got this from a Natural Healer. They doesn't seem to have done any good yet.

That is interesting.

My father tried it a couple of years ago, and in the end my mother begged him to stop. Apparently his moods and temper during/after the fasting made her dread those days.

As you say, I suppose there are a minority who it simply doesn't agree with, while the rest do really well on it.

@MargHine WELL DONE on your weight loss and success. It is lovely to hear these things. :)

They say that your gut has a lot to do with migraines. What did you find out on the internet, did you find out why? I'm also a strong believer in eating whole food, no egg white omelettes for me. So I make most things from scratch. Did your husband persevere or were they too bad.

My husband eats clean low carb anyway - he's not diabetic but a far better diabetic than me lol - I didn't really look into once he stopped the diet the migraines stopped almost instantly - he migraines he gets are horrendous he actually has no recall for 2 days and can go unconscious with them - he takes morphine suppositories prescribed by the GP - he hasn't had one since stopping the diet

Hi Marg. I haven't done the 5:2 diet myself, but are you saying that you count a fasting day from just after dinner on one day to just before dinner on the following day?

To be honest that sounds a little bit like cheating. I really think that the 500/600 kcal fast is supposed to include three consecutive normally timed meals. :)
