50 Years Later ......

Would you believe it? Just spoken to my mother re my blood glucose meter. She thought it was just a one off test for seeing if you're diabetic or not!
 
If it's any consolation when I was diagnosed with type 1 my partner thought I was only going to live for a few years..

They didn't have you heavily insured I hope, they may well be getting a little impatient by now!

My grandmother kept asking me when I was going to get off "the insulin" like it was some strange drug I was shooting for fun!

It is interesting what non-ds think.
 
Here's the thing tho. Most people don't know much, if anything at all, about being diabetic. Why should they? Did you know what it all means before you were diagnosed? I certainly didn't.

True, but as I was only 12 at the time of diagnosis and have now been diabetic for over 50 years, I'm surprised at my mothet's statement. Her own mother, my grandmother advised her at the time to stop my insulin injections, as the she believed the doctors were experimenting with me.
