I've just 6 weeks pregnant after having pre-pregnancy counselling and being on an insulin pump for nearly a year. I had my first ante-natal appointment last week and my obstetrician terrified me. He really emphasised all of the risks and although I'm pleased I'll be monitored so closely, he scared me to the point that all I've done since is panic that the pregnancy won't last. Has anyone else experienced the same?
It's worrying that he scared you. If your blood sugar is under reasonable control your risks should be no or little more than a non-diabetic. Why would it be otherwise. Obviously it may be a bit more difficult to maintain the same blood sugar levels thru the pregnancy but with good monitoring and insulin adjustments, I can't see why everything won't be fine assuming you have no other medical condition that's relevant

Hi
It's between 6.5 and 7 which my diabetic pre pregnancy consultant is more than happy with given my age and length of time I've had diabetes. I have my next scan tomorrow so just keeping everything crossed
Try not to worry too much. You are being closely monitored. The obstetrician is just being overly cautious. I was pregnant and diabetic and my control was terrible! I have a very healthy 9 year old daughter. She had no problems during or following birth and remains very healthy to this day. Enjoy your pregnancy and stop worrying! That will cause you to stress, which raises BG levels! Congrats on your pregnancy too! Take care, M x
Thank you Geordie lass. You've made me feel so much better. Hoping my 2nd scan shows a healthy baby tomorrow and I can relax for a week. How old were you when you were pregnant if you don't mind me asking? Xx

Congratulations. I had 2 healthy pregnancies 30 and 25 years ago. No Pump just 2 injections a day (a mix of a long acting and a short acting insulin). As we had successful pregnancies then just think how much greater your chance of success is now. The treatment has come on leaps and bounds since I was diagnosed in 1964. Try to relax and enjoy your pregnancy.
