Hi'ya to all.
New to both Diabetes and the forum it's a hello from me.
Having just been confirmed as having type 2 diabetes in the last 7 days and a tad worn out and confused having just about got my head around two other life changing events, I thought I would go to the top first to learn my next lesson on living longer.
I have a meeting with the 'D' nurse tomorrow and look forward to getting started, he tells himself!
Anyway, I look forward to meeting you all and the learning of another style of life and hope I can clear the pathway of confusion as to what is left to eat....?

My best regards

Paul

Good luck with the Diateic Nurse tomorrow. Right now you just need to do a lot of listening, and even more reading. It'll come down to a lot of trial and error...

Best of luck to you, mate...

Paul,

I can imagine that feeling a bit shell shocked and tired at the moment, but as Patch says try to learn and read up on the condition, there is a wealth of information to hand in library's and on the internet. Feel free to ask any questions on the forum, there are many type 2's old and new on here who can offer advice on most subject matters, any that can't be answered you will be directed to the appropriate professionals.

Rest assured with all been here before! :)

Nigel

Thank you Patch and Nigel for your kind welcome.
Yep! You are both correct on the larning points. My worry at present is that I am on a Low Cholesterol diet and have not got a clue where to even begin....
I went out late yesterday to have a look around at what is at hand food wise, bought a new blood test kit and had my last chicken in a bun. It would seem there is a devide in what the doctor is saying and what the written word out there says. A mine field!
I will take time out this week to go through the members points and hopefully pick up a few tips like what crackers I can eat with the forbidden cheese. lol!!!!! Or, how much fat to leave on the steak and not the reverse. Chips I can do without but pasta, rice and the rest of the white food group is not gong to be nice.
Having spent seven years cutting out the fats and now enjoy French Beans, Salmon and the like conjours up a few mental pictures.
A good point is that my partner can see her self loosing a few pounds as a result of my new found problem. lol!

Well! Thank you once again for your welcome and lets wait and see what happens in the morning.

Best regards

Paul

Stabilis....

Hello totsy, thank you for asking.
It's good to meet you, my name is Paul.
To answer your question; I had, with several others, yet another blood test; a Dopler check and watched the "Hunt the Diabetic's leaflet" game between the 'D' nurses and won a free copy. Not had time to read it yet!!!
I have to see my Dr. next week (Thur) to discuss the outcomes. Having totaly dropped all sugar since Friday last I would not be surprised if the tests show anything but the 'D' nurse said: "If the Dr. said you have it you have it." Who am I to argue?
So all in all, i'm no better off.
My only worry, if I can call it that; is feeling unwell and not knowing if it is the sugar or angina related illness feeling, if you know what I meen?
Having purchased a new blood tester this week (not wanting to wait to see if i'm issued one) I seem to be using it a bit too often just to A. Get used to it and B. check what is making me feel tired and unwell.
Anyway; I am glad I found this forum because when I had my M.I. There was no one I knew to go to and ask for advice without making an appointment with my Dr. (She is first class but very busy) I don't like to bother her when others may be far more ill than myself.
Cheer for now totsy and thanks again.
Best regards
Paul

Hi Paul and welcome :D

Glad to hear you are testing to see what your foods are doing to your BG levels, so hope you are testing before eating and then 2 hours afterwards so that you get the comparison. 8)

Good evening/morning synonyn.
Pleased to meet you.
As a matter of fact: I finished my reply to totsy this evening and had a read through a topic before signing off and found exactly that!
I went down stairs as if I had discovered a new element. lol!
Of course I have jumped the gun and not waited to see the 'D' nurse again who would or might have told me to follow that golden rule. ???
Anyway, I had a sensible meal after recording my BGL (Nice term!) and did one on the hour and on the second hour and found a higher reading both times and logged both in hope of finding a spike. No! Just a shift of 10 up on the level....
So i'm glad you pointed that out as it has enforced the learning for me and won't be forgotten. I hope?
Once again Hi, thank you and I hope to speak to you again soon.
Best regards
Paul

Hi Paul

Hope you get a DN who is with it enough to encourage you to test as most do not. A bit like sending your granny to cross a busy road but taking away her stick and putting a blindfold on her!

Let us know how you get on. :D
