A Bit Worried

Hi. Had my blood test on Wednesday and received a letter today to make an appointment to discuss my results. I know it will be high as I've had loads of high readings when I prick my finger.
I'm currently on 2 gliclazide and 3 metformin a day but they are obviously not doing the job now. I'm wondering whether the doc wil up my tablets or whether I'll have to go on insulin. Also wondering whether Im likely to get moaned at cos I've left it awhile with my BG being so high (was trying to get it down myself).

I am afraid that no one on here can tell you what your doctor will say about treatment. Maybe you need different medication, or maybe you need insulin - that is something for you and your doctor to discuss. What I can say is that if you get moaned at then you need a different doctor! You need support, not castigation.

That said, what sort of diet are you on? Many (possibly most?) doctors recommend a diet that is pretty close to the GI diet (low fat, low sugar and high complex carbohydrate - in particular eating carbohydrates with each meal). This is somewhat dated thinking in diabetes management, and some people consider it quite dangerous advice. If you look around these forums you will quickly see that most success stories in diabetes control are from people who adopt a low carbohydrate diet. If you are following a "low fat high carb" diet, then why not try to substantially reduce your carbohydrates and not worry too much about the fat. This lowers most peoples BG significantly, and there are stories (including on these forums) of people with type 2 diabetes, who have been able to come off insulin and drugs after following such a diet.
