hello,

I have a couple of questions, iv apparently been diabetic since I was around 15,

I have previously been on insulin, was taking 90MM nova flex twice Daily and that had little to no effect on my sugars

I went to the diabetic nurse and said about insulin resistance and they was sceptical, then started a resistance pill (invokana) which has taken my blood sugars from around 20 hb1ac to 8-9 range, and 3 x metaformin

I know I’m a big guy n that properly plays apart in this, but i never have any of the symptoms of high or low sugars,

I can test my sugars and they’re around the 5.6-10 range,

is there any thing that affects blood sugar other then diabeties ?

I’m curious about the Keto diet but not sure I quite understand it can anyone give any information on that?

If it wasn’t for the fact they test my blood and say I’m diabetic I would never of known so Im actually curious if there would be something else that’d be worth asking the drs/nurses to check,

Hi
It sounds as if you are a type 2 diabetic which means you re insulin resistant and your body can't make enough insulin to keep your blood sugars in a healthy range. If this has been going on for a while you won't necessarily notice any severe symptoms but the levels of sugar and insulin in your body will be causing some damage to your heart, kidneys or eyes.
Lots of things affect your blood sugar but the biggest one is food (sorry if I am being too obvious). Sweet food and drinks as well as chips, pasta and bread or rice will make your blood sugar go up whereas meat, eggs, cheese and fat tends not to Stress and illness can also raise sugars.
The drug you are taking may help you pee out some of the sugar in your blood and help with weight loss if that's an issue but in the long term you need to change your eating habits to lessen the insulin resistance in your body (the more insulin you make or take, the more insulin resistant you will become).
As for keto yes that would work but IMO you need to think about something you can stick to in the longer term/for life. This is a great site which has lots of videos and recipes for diabetics.
