Hi everyone - Im now around four weeks into my life as a type 2 - and a few questions that i would really appreciate help with please ?

I started out eating healthily - only wholemeal bread, lots of fish, vegs etc, and felt brilliant. I found my exhaustion levels improved loads, and I just had lots more energy. I also had a significant weight drop which is very needed,

I was taking the Metformin my GP had given me, but it was giving me terrible stomach pain and the runs, so on your advice changed to the slow release.
I also changed to low carb food, lots of protein and fats, very little carb.

Now .... this week I feel like ****. I am tired again and struggling with the exhaustion, and although the runs and stomach pains have stopped - i was constipated. ( im sorry if this post is tmi) for two whole days :(

It must be the change in diet and the meds - but I would be grateful for your opinions on this - I dont want to be sleeping my days away again :(

Hello. Can't help specifically, but someone with more experience will be along soon. I've not had carb flu and am not on meds but that might be what you're experiencing -- going from one extreme to another.
I certainly felt very well when I was eating "good" carbs but my blood sugar was too high.
Are you testing before and after meals?

I've been a bit .. er ... bunged up, too. I'm trying to drink loads of water, and I mean LOADS. The danger of low-carb diets, as I understand it, is to not have enough fibre going through you. I'm on the high fat diet with no carbs (Low Carb High Fat, or LCHF) and all that meat, eggs & cheese needs to be counterbalanced with more leafy veg than I've been munching, apparently.

Look on the bright side - when it does finally happen we get to have the most satisfying bowel movements on the planet !!

I follow LCHF and it definately sounds like the carb flu to me, I can relate to how terrible you must be feeling and it isn't very nice at all but it should pass. In regards to the constipation, are you drinking enough water and what kind of veg are you filling up on. Personally the only veg I eat is about 2-3 cups with my main meal at night and it is usually broccoli and I've never had any problems. Could you please let us know what you would typically eat in a day and we may be able to offer more specific advice.
