A difference that makes the difference?

I was diagnosed a year ago, and have got my waking levels down to between 5 and 6.2, so I thought I was doing o.k. Last week, I was told Boots were having problems getting Metformin SR, and they couldn't fill my prescription. I went to a different pharmacy, and got them straight away. I started the new pack on Saturday, and my levels have shot up to between 7.5 and 8.2, which was were they were before I started taking the Metformin! Does where you get the pills make a difference. I have done the same old, same old thing this week as last, with no major shift in my diet, so I am stuck for an explanation. Any ideas, anyone? Thanks,Ripelda

As long as the strength of the metformin is the same then it shouldn't make any difference where you purchase them or who manufacturers them, perhaps you are ailing something this week but not showing any symptoms.

Thanks! I saw my specialist on Monday and he said it was a blip. I was stressed out by seeing him, which is why my sugars go up, the week before. Maybe I should give up going to the doctors! Ripelda

The manufacturer DOES have an effect on the effectiveness of the drug. I know this to be true for different manufacturers of Gliclazide AND Metformin.

Make a note of the manufacturer of th edrugs you are given, and the effectiveness of each brand.
