Hi guys,
I've been using Human insulin for years now after being taken off animal based insulin. I was first diagnosed as a type 1 when I was 9 and was on the animal based insulin for the first few years, I was then switched to Human insulin when I was advised to use the basil bolus scheme basically because of teenage rebellion and poor control. Because I've been on Human insulin for so long I have no real comparisons to make in the difference between the two. I have been reading about the possible side effects of Human insulin, in particular Lantus which I use. I suffer from depression and use anti depressants and mood stabilizers too so find it hard to tell if I have any side effects relating to my insulin as I feel generally medicated a lot of the time. I eat really well and take regular exercise but I lack motivation hugely, which I've always thought and have been told by my GP was because of depression.
Does anyone know if I switch to animal based insulin from the lantus and Humalog 100U/ml which I use at the moment, if it will help me feel more motivated and less lethargic and also help me to loose a little weight as I put a lot of effort in and feel not much in the way of reward ??
Any experiences and tips greatly appreciated.
