Hi I'm Stuart and i was diagnosed with type 1 back in November 1997. I have never really taken my diabetes seriously, not eating properly and for a particularly bad period, not even taking my insulin. I always just thought i could knuckle down and take it serious;y later and nothing bad would happen. Wrong. 3 months ago i had my left leg amputated below the knee after a foot ulcer caused my foot to swell up to twice it's size and then gangrene set in. The surgeon hand no choice but to take it off. Harsh lesson, but now i am taking things a lot more seriously. i also have very bad retinopathy in my left eye. I son't want peoples sympathy, but what i do want is for people to look at what happened to me and realise it could happen to them too if they do not take their diabetes seriously... Don't let it happen to you, don't make my mistakes. I have to live with only one foot, You don't have to! Take it serious, don't eat that pudding, don't mess about with your meds... Thanks for listening to my rant... Stuart
