Hey everyone!
My name is alyssa and Im working on a project surrounding diabetes.
I need to gather information on how family members cope with the diagnosed patient with diabetes..
please take time to fill my survey, it would be a huge amount of help.
http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/RV5NWKL
(In the survey, I elaborated further on the purpose of my project.)
PLEASE NOTE: this survey is targeted for family members of diabetics,
I am in the process of creating a survey for newly diagnosed diabetics as well.
To make sure that you guys know that this project is passionately driven to help diabetics, here's my story:
I am personally not a diabetic. My father is.
my father was diagnosed with diabetes about 10 to 15 years ago from having an unhealthy diet over the years
(im not exactly sure if its from genetics as well).
when my father received the news that he is a type 2 diabetic, he brushed it off and said "the doctors are just trying to make money off me". He carried on quite a while without checkups nor medication until he suffered a few health complications and at the same time meeting my mother (my mother remarried quite recently with my father so yeah) who constantly oversees his condition, he managed to stabilise it. but he's paying for the negligence back then right now.
long story short, my father recently had an amputation surgery because of a gangrene infection in his toes. he has lost two toes and currently under observation to remove one more as i type this.
In some way I felt that if he was able to learn and understand more about diabetes at the time, this situation could've been avoided. he told me before that he was quite unsure what diabetes really was, and his diabetic doctor didn't really do anything to educate him on what steps to take and procedures, they just simply gave him a pamphlet and told him to read it. yeah, pretty demotivational right?
I am studying to become a graphic designer and I always believe in creating designs with a purpose. It's my final year of art college so what better way to tackle an issue that is close to heart and something that could potentially help people in the present and the future
if you've read this far, thank you for your time. please, do add suggestions and comments, it would greatly be appreciated.
thanks!
