Now, am I alone here and just a wierdo, please don't hold back if you think yes :D .

The issue is that ever since my symptoms started, pre-diagnosis as well, I've been suffering with my calves. Immediately pre diagnosis it got really bad, but even now I'm suffering somewhat. Symptoms are twitchiness in the calves, as if the muscles are jumping on their own, but also significant aching/DOMS after running, cycling etc that seems to take longer to recover from.

I've even gone to the extent of buying myself new trainers that have gone from zero drop to a 3mm heel-to drop just to take a bit of strain off the calves.

Thoughts?

Nope. Come to think of it, I don't think you're being weird at all.

Pre diagnosis I used to get restless legs pretty much every evening. - Even when I was driving. Used to have to stop sometimes it got so bad. I assumed it was some sort of vitamin/mineral deficiency. Since diagnosis it's hardly happened at all. - I hadn't really thought about it until you mentioned it.

Wonder why??

Very dissapointed!!!!! Was hoping for weirdness. Oh well will juat have to try to come up with some weirdness of my own .
And yes I know what you mean leg wise . Oo oo an opertumity for weirdness draw a hula girl on the back of you calves and see if the twitching can make it dance.

Was bad tonight. Ate all sorts of things I shouldn't have. - I feel ****. All the usual symptoms of high BG, - and, surprise surprise, restless legs! First time in absolutely ages!

Really does seen to be a link there.

hey Dave, i suffer terribly with aching calves after running :( thursday i almost had to stop running because the pain was growing, i cant remembering ever having this pre exercise so it must be the running for me, although slightly digressing from the calves pre dx my hands where really twitchy, people wouldnt believe i wasnt doing it on purpose, my fingers would flick about terribly and kind of spasm, and my eyes also twitched which gave me a complex when talking to people but apparently they couldnt see it, i havent had it lately and im not sure exactly when it stopped, id say it has to have something to do with the db

hope your feeling a little better this morning hornplayer

Hi,

This article might explain what is happening with your calves.

Have you heard of the low fat, chocolate milk to aid recovery after sports. If you google it, there are plenty of sites that recommend it. (Don't know if this would fit in with your eating plan) :?:

Drinking chocolate milk after a workout offers advantages for Post-Exercise Performance and Muscle Repair.

Thanks Catherine,

but this doesn't explain why I have calf discomfort now when I've ben a midfoot runner for over three years and haven't increased my training load at all this year.

I don't do the chocolate milk, becasue I don't tolerate cow dairy very well, milk makes me feel sick and cheese makes me phlegmy, but sheep or goat is OK. My post work out protein is a handful of nuts or PB on oatcakes.

Cheers

Dave

this week i bought a roller thingy, itsa like a big tube that you roll your legs over, and some compression running tights (the wife said she didnt want me getting hers so swetty) they werent cheap but oh my god my calves felt great during and after the runs, i used the roller while watching the tv on the poofy lol

I remember cramps and tight calves when trying to run pre diagnosis but TBH not so much since BUT my running/walking is I suspect more leisurely than either of yours and I increased my distances slowly.
Ely, I have a feeling yours is to do with glycogen replacement and or muscle repair. I think that it is very difficult for us to get this right. It's probably a matter of trial and error with the post exercise intake. The problem for us that both the carb intake and storage of protein require insulin and unlike non T1s and you pre diabetes is getting right amount at the right time.
(sorry that's no real solution)

I have a suspicion that maybe Andy's problem might just to be with increasing distance very quickly. Have you thought about having drop back weeks to allow muscle repair?

Phoenix, you may be right.

6 x 800m this morning at race pace or better, I hate morning speed sessions

Wore my calf compression sleeves and no issues at all during, but again post breakfst of fruit, bread, scrambled eggs and smoked salmon, I can feel my calves twitching again.

Massive dump from the liver though, BG of 5.9 before I started, 7.0 when I finished
