As I have changed my training recently I’ve been getting a few lows post training especially middle of the night so decided to reduce my basal.

I only take Levemir once a day.

Rest days take 17u Levemir at 9pm
Training days take 16u Levemir at 9pm

The 16u on training days was still causing lows recently so decided to lower it last night to 15u and levels have been all over the shop today 14 12 10 12 etc etc etc. I have been applying the usual inulin to carb ratio (which is completely made up by me by the way) to meals and eating the same macros, if lowering my basal to stop nocturnal hypos should I be increasing my bolus at meal times to compensate?

When do you take your basal?
When I was on MDI, I would take mine at night. (Like you, I only took my basal once a day).
I would reduce my basal the night after my training.
I tend to exercise after work (at about 6pm).
The reason for this was that my exercise is likely to have used up my liver glucose reserves so I had less to "drip" the next day.
I would handle the potential lows on the day of my training through extra carbs and/or lowering my bolus dose.

If my BG is higher during any day (which tended not to be a problem after exercise), I would correct through extra bolus.
I never felt the need to increase my insulin to carb ratio due to exercise.

Weekdays I train 6-8pm and then take basal at about 9pm
Weekends I train in the morning and take basal at about 9pm

Looks like the reduction from 16u to 15u might have been too drastic.

I'd say to give it a couple of days to settle, I'm saying that as I've been reducing my basal recently, from 25u Lantus to 21u currently over 10 days in 1u steps, and to be honest haven't seen a spike but am expecting to come to a point where my bolus needs to increase.

This has surprised me so far!

you could achieve much more accurate and effective results by splitting your dose....much more flexible, just my tuppence worth.....
