Diabetes....!!!
Help and advice needed.

Diagnosed as type 2 about two weeks ago after having a fasting BG reading of 14.
Doctor prescribed 1 x Metformin 500 daily which I only started taking last Saturday in conjunction with a low carb, low sugar diet and a exercise program. BMI is 33 but I've lost around 6 lbs in two weeks on a strict 1200 calorie a day limit. Blood pressure is all normal.
Decided this morning to do a fasting BG test and my reading was 4.9 !!!

Please help, am I really diabetic ?
Is this because the tablets are working ?
Should I increase my Metformin to two per day as suggested by the doctor ?

P.S. why are the NHS so reluctant to share information.....?

Well done on what you've achieved already! I would guess that your improvement in blood sugar is much more to do with your change of diet and your weight loss. Metformin actually only makes a relatively small difference to your blood sugar readings.
You've obviously got a meter and are testing. Carry on your good work, and test to see what foods affect you and what you can eat safely. I was diagnosed just under a year ago and had fasting blood sugar level of 18. I decided to try and control with diet only, refused medication - why take something if its not necessary? Only you can decide whats right for you. Once diagnosed, I think we are never cured - but can be under control at normal levels.
Good luck.
