@Contralto, It's a lot easier to say the acronym for the Australian airline QANTAS, than it's full name "Queensland and Northern Territory Aerial Services".I don't hate them as much as acronyms, especially in spoken language.

Agreed @tayelola, it s like someone is using a dialect unknown to the listener/reader. And I gather the word jargon comes from the French and meanings twittering of birds.I consider it a distraction when not on familiar terrain.
