@Contralto, It's a lot easier to say the acronym for the Australian airline QANTAS, than it's full name "Queensland and Northern Territory Aerial Services".

Agreed @tayelola, it s like someone is using a dialect unknown to the listener/reader. And I gather the word jargon comes from the French and meanings twittering of birds.
