Advice please would be appreciated, I'm a type 1 diabetic and a astmatic with a very low imune system, I work in a large retail store as we are still open because we sell food and medicine. I heard that type 1 won't be getting any NHS letters? Would I be overreacting if I went in to self isolation with my little boy because I'm face to face with customers daily and there no way I can social isolate and my anxiety is threw the roof as everyone else's is , opinions please

Hi @Elizabeth 89 ,

Welcome to the forum..

I'll be honest with you. People working with the public in the food industry need PPE.
(I used to work years ago for the Coop group, & understand.)
What you do is a valuable job supplying for key workers & the vulnerable.

Can you talk to your managment regarding your health risks & the current government directive?

To be honest I feel like my worries are falling on deaf ears , I'm basically on till and on shop floor and customers taking no notice of not coming to close. I know I'm needed at this time but From being of work a couple of weeks ago with my diabetes and astma I'm just in a situation do I put my health first and think of me and my son because personally loads of company's are looking after their staff just feel like mine ain't. I've spoken to mangers and basically had back I'm young u will be fine

Having been shielded by my own employer my wife, who works for a large supermarket chain, approached her Management regarding her being concerned about becoming a ‘carrier’ and possibly infecting me.
She was given the option of a 14-day self isolation or remaining at work which, with my blessing, she chose to remain at work however is a lot more careful in her dealings with joe public than even the government guidelines state she should be!
Even though you’re a key worker I would think, given your situation, that you’d be in the ‘vulnerable’ category and I’m thinking that your managers aren’t correct with that decision.
How about approaching your union rep or even your local CAB office to tighten up on any legislation which may assist you.
Please don’t get me wrong I’m no expert but just imparting advice gained from my own personal situation.

Thank you for the reply. Very wise words and I'm not going back I'm staying home .everyone worried I get that but need to put my own health first, it's discusting how "some companies" are all about making money and not protecting the staff . I will phone my union up,
