Accu Chek aviva expert

I am using the Accu Chek aviva expert blood machine and was just wondering if the following has happened to anyone else. At 10.30am I felt quite high so I tested my blood sugar and it was 12.6 so the machine advised me to take a correction of 2 units which should bring me back down to the normal range. Then at lunchtime my blood was 5.6 and I was having 60g of carbs so I would normally take 3 units but the machine stated I still had 1.9 units of active insulin still in my system, the machine still advised me to take 3 units but I thought I should have less than that. Does anyone think that the bolus advisor isn't working properly or is it ok.

The bolus advisor is working as it should but will leave you to decide to deduct the active insulin from the bolus calculation yourself so in other words you should have deducted the 1.9u (2.0 or 1.5) yourself as your bg was not on 4mmol .
 
Not quite right.. It depends what your target is and how long your insulin time is set up to.
The machine does minus off insulin if the settings and bolus's are calling for less or more insulin if high etc...

It depends on the settings in your machine...and the time of your previous bolus etc...

It's working fine, the meter is taking into account that your bg levels are back in range but you still have active insulin on board, therefore it will deduct the remaining insulin from the amount you should be bolusing for your lunch so that you don't go hypo postprandial.
 
Totally unrelated, but if you haven't lately, change your batteries.

A couple weeks back my meter kept consistently reading between about 115-135 mg/dl (6.4-7.5mmol/l). I'd give myself insulin and no change in my levels. Give myself more. Still no change. It got to the point where I changed insulin cartridges and thought I was completely out of the honeymoon phase.

I finally started getting hypo symptoms and my Dexcom kept telling me I was having a hypo. I tried another meter and realized my blood sugar was at 3.0 (and I'd just given myself more insulin).

Long story short, I changed the batteries, threw away the last few remaining test strips from that canister and haven't had issues since.
 
That's the point noble head it still advised me take the regular 3 units and not just 1,5 units like I thought and did. I was lucky because I forgot to mention this before but I checked my b.s at 4.30pm and I was 4,2 so luckily I never took the bolus advisor advice because I would have gone hypo.
 

Apologise Steve. Yes that is strange as it would normally deduct the IOB if bg is back in range when you test.
 
It has to be down to your settings Steve so did you do those yourself or was it dns .Have found mine to be very accurate but its only as good as current setting and you may need to adjust your ratio
 
Would contact her on Monday if you are not sure how to reset but be very careful if you have never done it before and get her to show you how to adjust the settings. Its a great meter so dont lose heart
 
Your settings are wrong as I mentioned before.
See your nurse or have a look and see what they have been set at. You need to know so you can change them yourself anyway.

It might well be that the correction setting ISF might not be correct anymore or the food that you did the bolus for got digested differently so that might be the reason why your bg got back to its target. Also might be that your basal need for insulin changes more at some hours than it does at others. Complicatied...........you bet lol
