One of my sons has mild facial acne and having read somewhere that lowering carb intake can have a beneficial effect on this I was wondering if members have any experiences they would like to share. He does drink pop, especially fond of Monster and enjoys a beer after work. Thanks in advance. BTW he does not have Diabetes.

I think that there are firming theories that diet does have an affect in that it alters the gut flora. There are all sorts of discoveries being made about the gut "biome" and our health. There is even a disturbing theory that those of us that are "carb addicted" are responding to the demands of a bunch of bacteria that want an easy source of carbs! (Not sure about that though). The altered flora might reduce the metabolites from bacteria that can make the skin more susceptible to flare- ups, or it might be that the better diet increases a bacterial population that produces metabolites that calm the inflammation. This area of microbiology is still new, but it looks as if the gut biome affects us far more than we ever thought.

I think the reason is age, especially adolescence
The problem will gradually disappear not to worry

Since getting off the high carb cholesterol lowering diet my skin has thrown out lots of retained debris - blackheads and white heads falling out after a hot bath became normal for a while - and these days my skin feels so soft and smooth and much more supple.

In my youth (1960s) acne and spotty faces were all blamed on too much fat in the diet. Now it seems to be too many carbs. I wonder when protein will get a turn?

I also passed this stage at the age of seventeen

The trouble is that when "kids" have it, it can rule their life. I know that high sugars affected mine though I never had it until 3 years back. Now no fruit at all. Took a week of water to clear it. My heart goes out to the young as they have enough on their plate to deal with as it is

This particular son is 26 so he has been through the spotty youth phase. The strange thing is that it improves during the summer, vitD perhaps?

The sun drys out the skin in the summer and then the pores don’t get as clogged. Also if there are bacteria causing some of the acne the UV Rays kill it.
It’s important with acne to not be too aggressive with cleaning products. It causes the skin to over produce oil.
