Hey everyone.

I was diagnised type 2 in Feb (8 months ago).

I feel like I've always had bad skin but have been resilient to antibiotics, various creams and tropical treatments and dianette. I am used to haveing a few spots on myface and always seem to have something on my chin.

Latley though it is getting worse. I just realised that I seem to constantly have at least two boils on my face at any time. Boils used tobbe occasional but now are all the time. Healing rates seem much slower too. I can't show my upper arms thanks to the ammount of small pimples i get. It seriously effects my confidence (especially with guys) and is quite simply embarrassing. Somedays my skin looks so bad without makeup I cry. They say your outer beauty reflexts your inner beauty so I'm sometimes wreched. I feel my GPs over the years have tried everything but seem to avoid referring me to a specialist. I'm worried of raising it with my new gp as I'm scared of being put back on antibiotics that I know won't work.

I read diabetes can cause boils, and so can an impeded immune system. What I don't understand is how my immune system is impeded, if an over active/strong immune system can cause diabetes.

Can metformin or glyclazide cause boils?

I mention the immune system especially as I took to boosting mine (pre diagnosis ) as a way of trying to treat my skin condition. I'm worried I caused the diabetes and have in fact made things worse.

Any help, advice and kind words greatly appreciated.

Whoever they are they are wrong big time.

You need to persevere with this - see your new GP, point out that antibiotics haven't worked for you and insist on being referred to a skin specialist.

I don't know but perhaps someone else on the forum will.

I don't know for certain but I suspect that high blood sugars (as in diabetics) could be a cause of skin complaints.

No - I very much doubt it - you say you were diagnosed as Type 2 - it is Type 1 which is brought on by the immune system attacking the beta cells in the pancreas.
Cheer up and go and see the doc :p

I think that Acne is genetic. My OH had it in his teens and 20's, I didn't. Two of my three children haven't had it, but the other has.

Have you tried Low Carbing http://www.dietdoctor.com/lchf as this limits processed foods and would be better for your overall health and boost your immune system and lower blood sugar levels are better for healing.

As the previous poster mentioned, get yourself a referral to a skin specialist.
