Hi,

I'm new to this site  although I've had Type 1 Diabetes for 22 years, for the last 4 or 5 (since I started the DAFNE programme) I have struggled with weight gain due to insulin. I tried Metformin last year but that made my blood sugars go high (which I'm told was a first) so today my specialist has prescribed me with Acomplia Rimonabant. I have never heard of this drug before but I'm slightly concerned after reading some of the reviews on the net. Has anyone else been prescribed this and how did you get on with it?

Thanks

Sarah :D

Hi Sarah,
Acomplia is not a diabetes treatment - it is a weight loss drug, and a fairly new one. I don't have personal experience of it but the website at the other end of this link will tell you everything about it.

It does appear to have a very long list of side effects and one of the big downsides is that the effects are temporary and on completion of treatment much of the weight lost is put back on.
