Hello dear diabetics. I have a 780G insulin pump and Fiasp insulin. I know that fiasp active insulin time is 4 hours, then why does medtronic recommend 2 hours? Because then I'd be hypoclycaemic. Insulin tails.

If you shorten your Active Insulin Time your pump will give you more insulin to combat high blood sugars. Although most insulins say they last for 4 hours or so that isn’t the same for everyone just like the Active Insulin Time settings on the 780g can differ from person to person. You have to find what works for you, 2 hours does work for a fair amount of people. I use Lyumjev and my Active Insulin Time is 2h 15 min and I’m rarely hypo so it doesn’t last as long as they say it should do.

My understanding is that pumps use Active insulin time to calculate Insulin On Board which, in turn, is used to calculate correction doses and maybe used by the HCL algorithm.
This varies from person to person so the pump and insulin manufacturers can only give an approximation/average. I am happy to adjust the Active Insulin Time on my pump from the default to what appears to work for me and wouldn't worry what the default is.
My guess (and it is pure speculation) is Medtronic have decided that given the overall Fiasp profile is very "front loaded", the remaining active insulin after 2 hours is usually insignificant.
