Hi I wondered if anyone could help.
I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes 4 weeks ago and told I had to go to the clinic straight away. I had two appointments cancelled and then a phone call to say the lady is off sick for a month so I would have a two month wait from diagnosis to see anyone (and would then be about to give birth anyway).
I have been told there is no other person who can meet with me. I managed to see a consultant who gave me a accu chek metre but said she didn’t know how to use it so to read the instructions.
When I got home I realised I only had enough strips for that day, and despite daily phone calls they have still not managed to send a prescription through so I have been paying myself instead.
My readings before eating are always under 6 but after ratings vary between 5.5 and 16. However, whenever I have had an out of tolerance reading I have tested again and got a vastly different result. I realise no two results are ever the same but I’m talking 6 followed by 15.8 or 14.7 followed by 5.8. How can this be happening and how do I know that any of the results are ok?
I always wash my hands and make sure the testing strips are correctly stored and in date.
I have no support from the hospital and have no idea if my readings are good or bad or if the metre even works. I’ve had no dietary advice but am being very healthy eating protein and veg and not carbs or sugar. I’ve being so stressed over keeping my readings under 8 that I have fallen below my pre pregnancy weight and I’m worried about the baby.
One lady has prescribed a drug over the phone without seeing my readings but again the prescription has not come through.
I’m so upset and terrified I’m harming the baby.
