Hi , i have been diagnosed about 3 weeks now and have been low carbing and 30 mins excercising (walking) each day i have lost 8lbs in weight and for the last 4 days have been self testing my readings 2 hours after meals have been between 6.2 and 6.8 i really want to do this without medication if i can do the readings seem ok? im worried that she will put me on meds tomorrow :|

Hi. With readings like that you shouldn't need any meds. I would expect the surgery to want to do an HBa1c blood test within 3 months which will show your average sugar over the previous 3 months. If this is down near 6.0 then you shouldn't need any meds. Note that many GPs don't like patients self-testing and may ignore your readings. If you don't want any meds yet then insist on an HBa1c if needed to discuss results before you go on to meds. Good luck.

Those readings sound really good, well done. I am also recently diagnosed and like you don't want meds. Ask if you can have more time to control you diabetes with diet and exercise. I did that and have until December. You do not have to accept what the nurse says, it is your body and your diabetes. I have been reading and researching and I have seen the suggestion that it is good to start meds as soon as possible. I have also read that the medication is progressive and once you start you will have to increase as time goes on. There is so much contradictory information it is a real maze. I think if you want to try without you should do so. You know your own circumstances, whether there are others in your family with diabetes etc, so you will have to weigh up what is suggested. Good luck, I hope it goes well.

Hi,Gally

Good luck tomorrow ,

When your nurse hears how have progressed and your wishes, everything should work out for your benefit.

You have done so well in just 3 weeks. This is proof that self control really helps.
