I had my review and the HbA1c result came back at 54 which my record say is “out of range: expected no further action”

I have not been told what I should do to correct this though I know my diet was not managed correctly however I did tell the surgery my sight has been affected and the optician says it is down to the diabetes being out of balance. It seems as far as the GP Surgery is concerned I am in my own! So it looks like I need to better control the diet and hope everything settles but not impressed by the lack of support. Anyone else get this sort of reaction?

Welcome Paul
Yes most of us have had the same help from out Dr, but if my experience is anything to go by any advice you do receive from your Dr or nurse will be outdated and not much use.
Got to admit being out of balance is a new one on me and about as useful as a chocolate fireguard.
The bad news is you are on your own.
But the good news is you are on your own, what you do in terms of altering your diet and possibly changing your lifestyle (it's mainly about what you eat) will have more of an effect on your diabetes than anything your Dr can do.
Have a read around the forum to get an idea of what needs to change,
(hint, it's all about the carbs) ask anything you need to, there is always someone here willing to help if they can.
The link below my post for the nutritional thingy is a good starting point

You might be on your own as regards the NHS (many of us are and a few are getting good support) but you are not on your own as far as we are concerned because most of us have been where you are now, and we can offer all the helping hands and explanations that you need.

Hello and welcome @Paul Upp

I absolutely agree with @Outlier you are definitely not on your own as far as we are concerned.

This is absolutely the best place that I am aware of to get help, advice, information and support.

My suggestion is to get a meter as soon as possible. You will find it a very helpful tool in helping you make the changes to your diet that will reduce your levels. Many health care professionals see type 2 as a progressive disease which nothing can be done about. Many here have put their diabetes into remission or at least have reduced their HbA1C so shown it does not have to be progressive.

There are quite a few different approaches that people take. I have gone down the very low carb road which has worked for me. I did not find it easy at first and in fact threw myself a real pity party. The amazing people here helped me so much and now my diabetes is in remission and I am in a better place than when first diagnosed :)

Good luck and welcome
