Hi all. I hope you are well. Finally thought I’d pop back on here and ask for some advice. I’m sure like everyone we’ve all found it tough these last few months with COVID and what not. I have been off work since March after loosing my job in childcare. I have tried to find work elsewhere at home ideally but no look. I have now had three people come to me asking me to come in for a interview. I’m desperate to go back to work but sacred as I have not left the house much since March. Does anyone else work in childcare and let me know how they have found it I have tried to ring my diabetic nurse but didn’t get much help in that area, but I do understand they have a lot going on.
I have informed the managers and the nurseries have very good COVID preventions systems for staff and children to follow and they have said they have had no cases but I don’t know. I’m in two minds.
Thank you in advance.

I don't have experience but I know of many Type 1's and Type 2's that are still (and have the whole time) been working in schools etc, there are regular sanitizing procedures of both hands and items etc, I understand why you are anxious, I haven't ;eft my front door since March as I also suffer anxiety and OCD and those are the 2 things causing me not to go out (well and the fact I live in a scheme with many blocks of flats and know they haven't been following guidelines etc) but there are many things in place to keep people safe in work settings, my partner has asthma and he's still comfortable going to work via public transport and everything, only you can make the decision but remember, if you are well controlled etc then your chances if you did catch anything aren't any worse than the muggles, I'm sure you'll be as careful as you can be xx

Thank you I appreciate you writing back. It’s just awful I sometimes think how are we going to get back to normal once were allowed too.

I am so sorry for your anxiety because I think it is very self limiting. As far as I know the only way to lessen the anxiety is to expose yourself to the situation that is causing the anxiety. Can you imagine some baby steps towards your goal? e.g. leaving the house then gradually building up to going to see a friend who works in a nursery for example?
There's no point in my saying that there isn't much risk of catching this or of becoming ill from it (even if this is true) because your mind will always find reasons to be fearful.
I am also angry that the media/government has made people so fearful when perhaps they did not need to and has therefore made people ill with health anxiety!
I am type 1 and I've worked when my gym has been open (I am a trainer). Not with children much but then I know there are no cases of nursery age kids passing this on so if you are going to work anywhere a nursery is a good place to be.

I do try and take the dogs out with my husband but I get nervous with people nearby. As I said i want to go back to work I miss being around people and seeing faces. I do need to just get out there and stay safe I think it’s just other people around me that don’t follow the rules. I’m sure with you working in a gym you get a lot of people like that. It does reassure me thought that people are working with diabetes and have been ok. Thank you for your reply I do appreciate it.

You're welcome. I think my point is that the longer you hide from your fear the harder it gets hence its good that you are out with the dogs (I love the fact that mine doesn't social distance from other dogs and like small children is blissfully unaware of it all) but perhaps there are some small steps you can take next if you think you 'd be very uncomfortable doing a full shift right now.
As for the gym it is Covid secure but I am totally relaxed if someone walks the wrong way down a corridor or gets a little close because for me (fit, female age 49) this remains a low risk virus and focussing on the stuff I can control (my blood sugars and mental health) helps with that.
