I am one of the new kids on the block.

I have just switched from diet/exercise control to metformine 850 and the very first time I took it today my reading went from its highest ever 275 (which is why I switched to pills) to 371 - taken 2 hours after lunch - a sandwich

Should I be panicking????????

No Bob not panicking, but you may want to re-think that sandwich!!!Metformin will help bring down your blood sugar levels but you need to give it a helping hand by reducing the amount of carbs you eat. What was in the sandwich BTW?

Hi Bob,
To be honest I don't think that there are many forum members who could eat a sandwich without their blood sugars going high. It has too many carbs. If you really want to still eat bread, (you don't say which type you ate) then try an open sandwich with protein and loads of salad filling and see how that effects your blood sugars. There are members who can eat nimble, soya and linseed or something like that but an ordinary white sandwich loaf has no advantages for diabetics.
Hope this helps,
Catherine.
