Hi, I need some advice please? I took 7 units of novorapid for my dinner this evening, Bg was 8 pre dinner. Post dinner rose to 12.9, so I took a correction dose of 1 unit 3 hours after dinner. Checked an hour later and gone up to 13.9, half an hour later to 14.9 and another half hour later up to 15.3! Should I take another correction dose, it's nearly 2 hours since the last one. I've checked for ketones and it's at 4.0?

Too scared to go to sleep at such a high level, please help!

have you taken your basal insulin as well ( lantus or levemeir ? )

what did you eat for your dinner ( total carbs ? )

and the main thing is don't worry too much -- 1 night with elevated blood sugars is not that bad

edit -- you have 2 topics on the go for this same topic

Hi, thanks for replying.

I took 12 units of levemir at 9.15pm
My dinner was a total of 62g of carbs. I've just checked Bg again and its down to 13.9

sorry for a bit of bad news -- you may need to stay up a bit longer to make sure you don't go hypo --
it is possible your rapid acting insulin "pooled" a bit which delayed its introduction intoyour bloodstream

just do a couple more checks between now and 12:30am and as long as above 7.5 you should be good to go to bed.
I've had nights like this myself -- not fun but we live and learn

Sorry i panicked so decided to post twice!! I haven't taken the correction dose so should be ok to go to sleep? Got work in the morning :-(
I hate this diabetes malarkey, it's exhausting!!

yes -- rest well -- you may be a bit high in the morning but 1 day in a 80 year life is not the end of the world:)
