My husband was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes a little over a year ago and is being treated with Matformin. In spite of having the tablets changed to slow release medication, he still quite often suffers incidents of uncontrollable diarroeah. This is making him depressed and unable/unwilling to lead his normal life. His GP assures him this will get better....but at the moment, he is embarrassed and humiliated on a regular basis and I am worried about the psychological damage this is doing. Does anyone have any advise to offer.

Hello. I would go back to the Doctor, explain the situation and ask for another type of medication. Poor man this is no way to live. :)

Is he eating low carb? I found the only time I had diarrhoea with Metformin was when I had had potatoes (which I rarely have nowadays) . I know it's not the same for everyone, just a thought.

I had the same problem but I find that if I take the pills in the middle of my meal so that it is sandwiched in the food so to speak it seems to stop the problem .How long has he been taking the SR tablets because it does take a few weeks to settle down fully
