advice on getting preg

Messages

Hi. Im nearly 24yrs old and have had t1 for 10 yrs.
I have never really had great hba1c results altho i try so hard to lower it, i just keep getting the same result( 9.2).
I have done the DAFNE course and carb count my food but still get nowhere:(
My boyfriend and i are so desprate for a baby (we'v been to see the diabetic pregnacy nurse a few times over the last couple of yrs) but i have been scared by all the complications to me and the baby with hba1cs higher then 7. Im just wondering if i should just keep trying to lower my bloods before i start trying or if there is anyone who has had a baby with a high hba1c that can give me some advice? X

Hi Laura,

I mentions to my nurse about wanting to have a baby some point soon. My hba1c was up to 9.1 from 9 after doing better with my sugars recently. I asked them to check my blood count & it came back low so the nurse said obviously that will have made my hba1c inaccurate. She said what I need to do is see the dr for that & we need to work on lowering my hba1c closer to 7. Also going on the higher dosage of frolic acid as soon as a year before we start trying. Have you been started on this already?

Sorry it may not be the response you were looking for bit thought I would share what I was told.

Hope you are doing well & it's nice to see another '89! :)

Hi Laura,

I was the same as you, unsure and scared about the consequences of having a baby with an HB1C higher then 7. I've been trying to get mine lower, I'm at 7.9, but decided to go ahead and try!! Been trying for around 4 months, no results yet, which is upsetting, but trying to keep my chin up. My fear is that my diabetes may have caused infertility, but I don't know this for sure, it's just a fear at the moment. We have great support when it comes to diabetes and although below 7 Is ideal, if u read this forum, many woman have had healthy babies with little to no complications with higher HB1C's then ours. Main thing is to focus on being healthy for own benefit in the long run. I'm sure if having babies is for us, it won't go past us!! :D
