Hey everyone,

I was wondering if I could get some advice about my readings. I've only had my monitor for a few days, and I think it's going okay, but would love to have some verification that I'm on the right track.

So over the last few days here are my readings (I don't eat breakfast):

Friday Lunch-Pre: 6.6, Post: 7.3

Friday Dinner-Pre: 7.6, Post: 7.9

Saturday Lunch-Pre: 7.0, Post: 7.1

Saturday Dinner-Pre: 7.2, Post: 9.2 (I tried eating two mini tortilla wraps, so knew I might spike, but still within the 2 mm/ol, so is it okay? Or is the reading just too high? My fasting sugars were higher the next morning than they had been, but not a huge amount)

Today Dinner-Pre 5.8, Post: 7.6

So I had my biggest spike at dinner last night and tonight, but still within a good range, right? Just curious if I flew too close to the sun with the tortillas? I also tried two slices of bread (crustless/lowest carb bread I could find at Tesco), and I'm pleased it didn't spike me to crazy amounts. But should I be doing what I've done for lunches/dinner?

I'd love any advice/reassurance/guidance. Thanks!

Are the post readings 2 hours after eating?

Your diabetes team should be able to let you know what levels you personally should aim for.

If it helps you to know. I personally would be very happy with those increases after meals. And pre-meal readings in the 5's is great.

Like you, I only eat lunch and dinner and don't snack. So find that bloods for the rest of the day are fine.

You could also test going for a walk after eating. Especially if you think your meal will cause a big spike. I'm always surprised how much of a difference a 20 minute walk makes to my readings.

As ‘Guilty‘ says, test 2 hours after eating. A rise of 2mmol/l or over is classed as a spike so maybe try and identify what’s causing it. I’m the same, I only have 2 meals a day as I don’t class my morning coffee as breakfast even though it has double cream in it :p

Hi, thanks so much for responding! Yes, these are all 2 hours after eating. I've not officially been diagnosed, I got my Hb1ac results and then they didn't schedule a GP appointment for almost a month after, so I'm trying to get as much info/data as I can, in hopes that the GP will let me continue on with diet for 2 more months and see if I can bring it down that way, before going on meds (I'm not anti-meds, but want to see if I can give it ago, if I can't, then I'm more than happy to have the help).

So it's only been, maybe two weeks I've been doing this. The one time I was in the 5s was when I hadn't eaten anything except light snacks until dinner, (not by choice) and walked around quite a bit. I walk 10,000 steps or about 4.7 miles a day (at least 5 days a week), so walking 20 minutes after is a great idea. Today I tried eating breakfast and while it was nice, I've realized I really am okay when I don't.

So 2 mmol/l is a spike and should be avoided? That's good to know, I was thinking over that would be the spike. I can adjust my carbs, I've been experimenting a bit, so I definitely know what caused the spike, for example dinner last night we had pulled pork with BBQ sauce and I cheekily tried two pieces of bread, I figured it was a good risk since I hadn't had anything much else to eat. But now I know only having one is better. We're having leftovers tonight, I might try two again and see the difference a 20 minute walk makes, could be interesting to see...

So my goal should be less than 2 mmol/l after eating. Not up to 2 mmol/l is fine...which is what I was wondering about.

Thank you both!
