Type of diabetes
Type 2
Hi I am my worst own enemy as I am only type 2 so didn't think it was as bad as type 1 and tend to eat cakes/biscuits/chocolate. But have had a wake up call today having been to opticians and they have found bleeding (5 points) at back of eye pictures and sent letter to GP for Retinopathy eye test as I have not had one for 2 years. I am on 4 sukkarto a day and 2 gliclazide and my sugars are a lot better than they were now coming in around 12 instead of 22. I know you are not meant to eat carbs, but I cannot eat many vegetables and don't like salad items so tend to have either potatoes/rice or pasta with every meal. I appreciate there are going to be comments "you have brought this on yourself so we are not interested", but I really want some friendly advice to get things under control please. I do not want to lose my sight. Thank you in advance.

First, you will not get those comments on this forum.

Do you like bacon and eggs? Full fat yoghurt? (The 10% fat natural Greek yoghurt is very filling and very tasty.) Cheese? Nuts?

What is the issue with the vegetables? If you cannot eat them due to a physical condition, by all means don't eat them, but if you don't like them much, maybe we can help find a way to eat them that does appeal to you. For instance, I regularly eat cauliflower purée, which is really close to mashed potatoes but without the carbs.

The Internet can be a brutal and hurtful place, but this is one little corner where we all try to help each other, no blaming or shaming allowed here.
Welcome debbedy37
12 is a lot better than 22 but I'm sure you realise that it's not ideal, the best way to improve your retinopathy and avoid further complications, it to get your levels as close to non diabetic as possible.
I think you know its the carbohydrates in your diet causing you problems, there is absolutely no reason to have your plate overflowing with veg and salad if you don't enjoy them.
Quite a few people here eat very few veg, if any at all, meat, eggs, cheese, healthy fats will not cause high sugar levels.

Would be really shocked if you get these from round here. and as Antje77 said, if you do report it just as soon as.

If veg and salad don't work for you, try meat, fish, hams, cheese for more protein and fat.

This can be controlled. It's not easy. 12 is going in the right direction from 22.

Wish you the best of luck

I did find the way to switch to low carb was to find good substitutes for foods I loved.
I make my own cauliflower rice and mash - you can get the rice frozen but I find my method tastes better. It is simple and you can have it with lower-carb curries or as a stir fry.
And try 90 second bread made with ground almonds - split and lightly toasted it is good for ham or cheese sandwiches and for BLTs.
I just do without pasta and have more spog bol sauce/meat with cheese.
And I make low carb mug cake or tray bakes too - there are lots of recipes if you search keto or low-carb.
