Advice please - high Glucose in blood test

Hi, I'm looking for some advice please. My 9 year old recently had a fasting blood test for some gastro symptoms that he was having and his blood sugar levels came back as 6.8, the Dr called us and requested that we repeated the fasting blood test and this also came back high at 6.7 so he is now being referred topaediatric. Could anyone give me some insight as to what this is likely to mean? He hasn't shown any other typical signs ofdiabetes and his urine test didn't show any sugar or proteins.

If he's ill then it can be the case that blood sugars may be elevated. The docs should do an HbA1c to look at the "average" blood sugar reading over the past 8-12 weeks to see if there is anything amiss. It could simply be the other condition leading to higher than usual blood sugars.

Yes, illness will raise blood glucose levels, as will certain medications, stress, disturbed sleep and a miriad of other things. It just needs keeping an eye on.

Thanks for the advice, he's not been unwell they was initially doing gastro tests to rule out any other conditions before checking food intolerances. However he does frequently have disturbed sleep and each test was done first thing in the morning.
