I woke in the middle of the night with a hypo - woke this morning my blood was 9.
I felt a bit blurghhh on waking, but didn't really think anything of it as I often feel like that the morning after a night hypo.
My bg then started to raise as the day went on. It's hit 26 now.
Whilst I was out I had the most weird feeling. And it almost cause me to black out. To the point I had to get a seat fetched for me and water. My bg at this point was 12.1

After sitting down I felt less faint.
On my way home my legs felt really wobbly and I just don't feel right. I keep going dizzy. I feel. Blurghhh and just tested for ketones and there's a trace (nothing major)
So what I'm asking (after going around the houses) is could a trace of ketones make you feel that ill?

I think just being that high could easily make you feel like that.

Keep an eye on ketones. Keep drinking water and do careful corrections.

This is a stupid question - but I only ask because I'm pretty sure it's what I did this morning after waking hyper and then hypo in the night (& I've never done it before, but there's a first time for everything) - have you taken today's basal?

Have you been doing corrections & are they working? Even so, there's no harm in starting fresh pens.

Look after yourself

I've never experience anything like that before with highs. But I know highs can send u funny.
Yeah I deffo did my basal this morning.
And I have been doing correction doses, that don't seem to be working.
Think I might change the cartridge - see if that makes any difference.
Thanks for the advice @catapillar

Careful not to over correct & keep testing. Have you got someone at home with you who is vaguely sensible - if you are feeling out of it, being looked after is allowed (if that is an option) & so is calling 111.

Yeah. I have people around me looking out for me.
Thanks again x

hi there @Tanny35
could it possibly be a reaction with another med ?
are you fully hydrated ?
that 26 is too high and would have left me pretty much on the floor
a phone call to the DSN in the morning just to discuss maybe.

also -- possibly an infection if corrections aren't bringing you down to single figures :(

hope you're feeling better soon

I just feel really weird (like I've never felt before - even with highs).
It could be a side effect of something I'm taking I guess.
I've made sure I've drank lots of water.

I did my last correction 3 hours ago. And my bloods are now 23. So about to do some more.

I've got bad stomach ache now too so it could be a bug maybe. It was just weird as I felt fine until the funny turn earlier!

Thanks @himtoo X

What are your ketones looking like? Cos stomach pain can be a symptom of DKA (I am a hypochondriac tho) & if you've been in the 20s all day your ketones could be increasing - just keep an eye on them X

There's a trace of ketones. So I will keep checking them throughout the night

Sometimes when bg levels go mega high with keytones as well, feeling sick and being sick can happen. If this was me, I think I would be getting a bit worried if bg wasn't starting to lower ok and would try a higher correction dose to see if that worked. Are yr pens working ok and have you used fresh cartridges just in case? If you can't get bg to lower, then get to hospital A & E and get checked out incase of virus or something

I changed cartridge and checked pens are working. So hopefully they will start to drop soon

Bg is starting to come down. 16.3 now.
I had a thought just now - which never occurred to me. My handbag was put near the radiators ( and I was that cold last night and this morning I had them on) and my pen was in my bag - wonder if it's affected the cartridge that was I there maybe, hence why they weren't coming down at all

I reckon that's the answer. Glad they are coming down - maybe set an alarm to check you don't drop too low overnight. Hope you don't feel too washed out tomorrow.

Glad bg is starting to drop.....Keep drinking a glass of water every hr for the next few hrs so that urine is ok and not dark yellow. You live and learn with D.....its possible for insulin to weaken in strength due to being close to a radiator so remember that in future. I'm hoping that you dont need to work tomorrow.....might be best to stay at home until Weds

I know - got a feeling I'll go low now. I've set an alarm tho just to be on the safe side!

Thanks again X

How did you test for ketones? Urine test?
Urine dip test tells you your ketone level that's leaving your body not actually ketones in your blood.
Keep this in mind. Hope things are improving :)

There is still a trace on the dipstick.

I'm also in stage 4 kidney failure. So it's sometimes hard to work out if it's the diabeties or that that's making me feel ill.

I'm at the hospital tomorrow, so going to mention everything to them.
I feel a bit better today thanks, just a bit blurghhh and feel spaced out. X

Hi @Tanny35, whilst it sounds likely the insulin was at fault, are you also aware of the liver dump after a hypo? This happens as the body attempts to raise he BG naturally and causes a high, some time after the hypo. This can cause a problem (upto 18-24 hours later if you have tried to correct the high, because the liver tries to reclaim the spent glucose from the blood, and you get a new drop, greater than you would expect from the insulin correction dose.
