I saw nurse last week and she put me on metformin for type 2, im on 1 tablet for a week then on 2. Here is my question, I went onto another forum and they said i should be testing my own bloods daily, should i as nurse said i didnt need to before i was put on meds?

Welcome to the Forum.

The short answer is Yes you need to test otherwise you will never find out what the food you are eating is doing to your blood sugar levels.

The HCP's tell you not to test as it saves the NHS money on test strips which cost them a lot.

Initially, you should test immediately you get up then before each meal and two hours after each meal.

Once you have learned which foods are best for you then you will be able to test a bit less.

It was much too late to answer you properly last night so here is the full advice that Sue and I hand out to newbies. No idea how long you have been diagnosed so apologies if you know some of the advice offered.........

Whatever you have been told elsewhere and by your HCP is their advice, not ours which is taken from our own experience as Diabetic's. Everybody should test in the initial stages and as Sue says, once you know what certain foods do to your Bg levels then you can ease up a bit.
